Hey Dolls :)
I absolutely love gel eyeliner and for the last couple of years I have been 100% monogamous to M.A.C's fluidline in blacktrack. However, when maybelline finally released their gel eyeliner here, I was rather excited.
I've been using the liner for about a week now and I LOVE it. Honestly, I think it's comparable to both MAC and clinique's gel liners (which I've recently tried and also like) but in maybelline's case it's cheaper and you get a brush! Consistency wise, the liner is really soft and smooth and doesn't feather when applied. It may not be as black as other gel liners but I still think it's quite a dark, inky colour.
In terms of longevity, it lasts about as long as my fluidline, by the end of the working day my flicks could probably do with a touch up but the only liner I've tried that actually lasts the full day is illamasqua's precision ink. One thing I have noticed is, once applied, it does take a little longer to dry than blacktrack and for the first few applications I did have transfer onto my brow bone, though a little extra care helps to stop this.
I was really excited to try the liner brush that comes in the box and I was really surprised - I think it's a brilliant shape for liner application! You can use the very thin edge of the brush to get a really defined, sharp edge or use the flat side to get a thicker smooth line across the lid. The shape gives you lots of control over the product and is a brilliant alternative to my usual brush of choice, mac's 209. Here is how it looks on...
Overall, I think this is an excellent quality product for the price, and would be especially good if you're venturing into the world of gel liner for the first time. Have you tried this or want to? What are your gel liner experiences?
Love Nicola

ReplyDeleteI had been nearly going to buy MAC's fluidline, but then I noticed this in Superdrug on offer, and I'm so glad I did when reading this review! As a gel liner virgin, I wsan't sure what was the best and if this did it, but it turns out it does:) I love it too! Thankyou!♥
ReplyDeleteOh I may have to buy this I don't wear eye liner so this sounds good for me :-)
ReplyDeleteI bought this a couple of weeks ago - my first gel liner so think I need a little more practice in using it. Looks gorgeous on you! x

ReplyDeleteI bought this a few weeks ago and it's my first gel eyeliner I like the effect it has but I find it takes me much longer to apply this than liquid, so I've stopped using it everyday because I have to apply a black e/s over the top because of the transfer but apart from that I think it's lovely xx
ReplyDeleteI cant wait to get this, i havent tried a gel eye liner before and i hear good things about this one the brush as well. Im sure it will take me awhile to get used to it but cant wait to try it x
